THE HOLY SPIRIT
The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Blessed Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) and consubstantial with the other two, possessing the same Divine Nature. For Faith Doctrine references on the Trinity, please explore the Catechism of the Catholic Church, #232- 260.
The Holy Scriptures tell us of Jesus Christ's crucifixion, death and burial on Good Friday (Matthew 27:33-61, Mark 15:22-47, Luke 23:33-56 & John 19:17-42). His Resurrection on Easter Sunday (Matthew 28:1-10, Mark 16:1-8, Luke 24:1-12 & John 20:1-18) was followed forty days later by His Ascension to the right hand of the Father (mentioned only in Mark 16:19-20 & Luke 24:50-53). Christ's Ascension is also professed in both the Apostles' Creed and Nicene Creed.
Subsequent to Christ taking His rightful place upon His Throne, Mary, the Apostles and others - about 120 believers (Acts 1:14-15) in all - were in the Upper Room when the Holy Spirit was unleashed upon them. This day, known since Old Testament times as Pentecost, is now recognized as the birth of the Church, when all were given Power from On High to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ to the four corners of the Earth.
